It’s not as bad as the GOP’s corporate-welfare policies that actively prop up the rich at the expense of the poor, but it’s still very harmful to the poor, and this harm is completely ignored in favor of a bizarre Wild-West concept of what “freedom” and “accountability” ought to mean.

* This hurts the poor, because poor people don’t exactly have the leisure of not-spending-as-much. Every penny has to go to food, rent, utilities, and on rare occasions, they might be able to replace old, worn-out clothes when they get holes in them.

** We tried that 100 years ago. The result was that cocaine, absinthe, and alcohol were being sold as “cough medicine for children,” food contained rats, rat droppings, and the poison that was attempting to keep the rats out of your sausage factory, and no safety precautions taken at all. When poor children lose fingers working 12-hour days in a factory instead of going to school, that’s a problem.

Ya know as thay say, the law in its majesty forbids rich and poor equally to sleep under the bridge and all that. In the libertarian utopia, the freedom of speech will permit every poor person to apply for a job on a fake-reality show eating maggots!

Oh, and what I have found is that Libertarians do make the world into a caricature of what it really is and rely too much on the kindness of people and ignore the fact that many people are mean, greedy and spiteful. In a perfect world where everyone was kind, nice and worked towards balance, the government would not be necessary, but the world as it is requires government, regulations, and all the stuff that Libertarians hate.

Just tell me how much you hate government when you have your head in the toilet after getting food poisoning because of a lack of regulation.
